Another promise delayed- Cheapest tablet Sakshat nowhere to be seen

India has seen another setback in terms of its promise of delivering the cheapest tablet Sakshat at a price of Rs. 1600, sources revealed. The due date for the launch of the tablets was January 15th but the date has long gone. Reportedly the reason for the delay is the cancelling of the contract given to HCL to make the tablets.

According to sources, there was a rumor that the Ministry of HRD believed that the vendor was making unreasonable demands. Consequently the 60 Crore contract was cancelled making the contract available for bidding again.

Sources informed that HCL has not yet confirmed the news, neither has the government commented on it. There has also been a lot of speculation on the fact that the tablet maybe completely outsourced from China, sources added.

The government has made a lot of promises in the past but has delayed them for example Mobile Number Portability to 3G connectivity. They have all come later than promised to India.
