LG, the Korean vendor underwent a major reshuffle in attempt to bring in the restructuring issues and struggling mobile business on track.
Post these efforts and appointment of Koo Bon-joon as Chief Executive, LG has got a bolt when Global Chief Marketing Officer Dermot Boden announced his plans to step down. The company is putting in the efforts to structure the manufacturing abilities and in fact rolling back on the investment plans.
The major milestone under this strategy is the foundation of the Business Innovation Office under the leadership of Koo Bon-joon. The unit would work towards raising the profile for core competencies of the firm. The new management has even reincarnated the Global Marketing Division as the Global Marketing Office and would make its efforts towards promoting the LG brand and boost the sales.
No official comments have been released as yet in this regards.
NVIDIA is all set to take the world with “Project Denver” which is being designed in tandem with ARM. Announcing its collaboration with ARM, NVIDIA has grabbed the right to build its own CPU based on ARM’s forthcoming processor architecture.
Both the vendors as a team are working towards powering personal computers, workstations and supercomputers by integrating the high performing chips on the wafer sharing space with NVIDIA GPU. These updates further bolster the chances of Microsoft coming up with System on a Chip (SoC) architecture in the next anticipated version of Windows.

The long term partners “Wintel” are about to break it seems. To hop on the tablet bandwagon, Microsoft is now shifting its focus to develop operating systems that are compatible with “ARM” processors.
Citing the updates, the related sources quoted that in wake of not allowing the “tablet” go off like that, Microsoft plans to move to ARM, which is otherwise ruling the tablet segment from a long time now. The software titan has signed a deal allowing it to design its own embedded ARM-based processors and other embedded systems.

The attempts to showcase ARM based Windows would mark Microsoft efforts towards mobile computing era; though the response is slow.
After the huge success of Windows 7, Microsoft is all set to take the new challenge and is preparing Windows 8 in a secretive manner. Though not many details have been leaked about the same but it is assumed that the new OS would have a focus on gaming.
Spilling the beans, the related sources have quoted that Windows 8 is likely to come with a focus on gaming at large. It will not only be a major push but also would be the integral part of the new operating system, cited related sources. Apart, the new operating system would include a digital marketplace that would allow users to purchase and install the new operating system.
Focus on gaming is nothing new with the software titan; the fad grabbed the attention with the launch of Vista. In a year’s time, Microsoft has achieved a milestone by reaching a mark of 1300 customers for cloud based offerings, cited related sources.
The numbers are revealed first time ever by the software titan and these are nothing less than a major achievement. Among the businesses signing up for the cloud offerings, SMBs form the major chunk; the numbers are as high as 80% of the total. On the other end, the enterprises signing up for the offerings have large number of users for the services.
In fact a survey report has indicated that India is leading the bandwagon in terms of cloud adoption and the rate is soaring high. CRM and Collaboration Solutions are the areas fast picking up the pace and are moving fast to cloud space. In wake of increasing the traction, Microsoft is likely to upgrade its Office 365 offering to make work easier in virtual environments. Pitched to be available by next year commercially, the software titan will start following subscription based model for its cloud based offerings.
Advanced Micro Devices Inc, the leading PC chipmaker registered solid earnings, sources reported. It also said that it was not shifting towards the mobile segment anytime soon after the controversial exit of its CEO recently.
Dirk Meyer’s ouster was abrupt, which reportedly led to the belief that his failure to cater to the huge market for tablets led to his exit and AMD wanted to jump into the tablet’s chips bandwagon immediately. But the chipmaker firm denied any such intentions and said that it was concentrating on launching its new line up of microchips for now, added sources.
Sources reported that AMD though has agreed that its absence from the tablet microchips segment was one reason for the CEO’s departure from the firm.
In the future AMD plans to get into manufacturing of microchips for tablets, but it simultaneously wants to continue its present production, focusing on its new line of fusion chips meant to severely compete with new chips released by Intel, trusted sources informed.
Experts believe, sales in the PC market could increase 10 or 11 percent where AMD's new Fusion chips will appear in notebook PCs made by Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Samsung, Sony and Toshiba Corp.
HP has again made a reshuffle in its board of directors, it was alleged that the board was dysfunctional which led HP to take this step, sources informed.
As Hewlett Packard’s new CEO Leo Apotheker is reworking the company’s status, five new directors including former eBay chief Meg Whitman will join the board.
According to sources, the company had received flak for the controversial ouster of CEO Mark Hurd where industry leaders and shareholders had shown disappointment in the leadership of HP.
The company with the arrival of the new heads will see a whiff of fresh air in the company’s expertise, experience and quality of work, sources added.
In addition to Whitman, HP named as directors Shumeet Banerji, CEO of Booz & Co; Gary Reiner, former chief information officer of General Electric Co; Patricia Russo, former CEO of Alcatel-Lucent; and Dominique Senequier, CEO of AXA Private Equity.
The four directors are leaving voluntarily, sources said. Hyatt and Joyce were directors since 2007, Ryan since 2004, and Salhany since 2002. The HP board will be left with 13 members after this change.
Facebook is setting the stage to reveal its financial status this year or in early 2012, sources reported. It is world’s number one social network and its value is estimated at around $1.5 billion.
Facebook reportedly, received finances from Goldman Sach’s overseas client, from Goldman itself and Russian firm Digital Sky Technologies recently. $1 billion was financed by the overseas client and $500 million by the latter two. The $50 billion value of the company could become one of the largest initial public offerings in 2012.
Facebook will have to unveil its financial information because it may exceed 499 shareholders limit this year and the US securities regulation requires companies to make their finances public on crossing this number, sources informed.
Goldman reportedly wanted to raise $1.5 billion from overseas clients but Facebook limited the amount to $1 billion calling it a business decision. According to sources, Facebook is not planning to use the raised money at present.
Sources added that Facebook does not intend to disclose its financial status until April 30, 2012.
Investors meanwhile are keenly interested to acquire Facebook shares through private exchange.
Microsoft and HP have collaborated on providing new solutions for business intelligence, data warehouse, messaging and data consolidation to escalate employee productivity and bring down IT complexity, sources reported.
Both the firms reportedly have introduced 4 new converged application appliances that combines applications, infrastructure and productivity tools into a single system. The solution will simplify the delivery of applications for IT by optimizing employee productivity and decision making.
The HP E5000 messaging system reportedly is expected to hit the market in a short span of 45 days to run messaging services while the HP Business Decision Appliance is already available to run business intelligence services. The other 2 appliances are supposed to be unveiled at a latter part of this year.
According to sources, currently highly customized business applications are deployed which take too long or proprietary stacks of applications and infrastructure are used which are slow and stubborn. Therefore these products will probably bring about higher sophistication in the critical business applications.
The firms had collaborated last year to build new converged application appliances; they are the industry’s first systems designed for IT as well as end users.
India has seen another setback in terms of its promise of delivering the cheapest tablet Sakshat at a price of Rs. 1600, sources revealed. The due date for the launch of the tablets was January 15th but the date has long gone. Reportedly the reason for the delay is the cancelling of the contract given to HCL to make the tablets.
According to sources, there was a rumor that the Ministry of HRD believed that the vendor was making unreasonable demands. Consequently the 60 Crore contract was cancelled making the contract available for bidding again.
Sources informed that HCL has not yet confirmed the news, neither has the government commented on it. There has also been a lot of speculation on the fact that the tablet maybe completely outsourced from China, sources added.
The government has made a lot of promises in the past but has delayed them for example Mobile Number Portability to 3G connectivity. They have all come later than promised to India.
Research In Motion is securing its corporate market by introducing a new software which shall segregate personal mails from professional data and other applications sponsored by employers in its Blackberry device, sources informed.
The software would provide users with two phones in one; the step has been taken to combat competition in the corporate segment.
As IT companies are increasingly permitting employees to use their smartphones at work, leading to confidential data management on these devices; securing their data becomes important for these companies, especially with relation to devices which use the android, which is less secure than the other smartphones, sources reported.
According to sources, the software being introduced is called Blackberry balance which will enable IT departments to control business related data via Blackberry Enterprise Server and leave out personal photographs, web browsers and social networking applications in the device.
The testing of the software Balance is on and it is expected to be available in North America within two months.
Google Inc’s outgoing CEO Eric Schmidt is receiving a $100 million equity award by Google, as he hands over the reins to co-founder Larry page, trusted sources informed.
According to sources, it is the first such award which Schmidt is obtaining since he joined Google in 2001; he will get stock units and options which shall vest over a period of four years.
The announcement of Larry Page taking over from Schmidt came as a surprise to the world where the former will handle full-fledged operation as CEO from April this year, sources reported. With Google reporting very high earnings for the last quarter, the news created more hype than expected.
Schmidt plans to sell about 534,000 shares of Class A common stock; meaning he would continue to hold 8.7 million shares of Google stock and control 9.1 percent of the company's voting power compared to 9.6 percent in December-end 2010.

T K Kurien Wipro’s new chief has formulated a new plan to set the house in order by dissolving the numerous complex internal departments and integrating them into a few focused units. He plans to grow sales and increase market share by warding away strong rivals such as Cognizant, TCS and Infosys, sources informed.
According to sources, the major changes which are in the pipeline are first -shifting away from the traditional model of targeting the same customers for different businesses by several departments and secondly diverting the decision-making process to where the market is situated rather than in the head office in Bangalore.
This shall enable Wipro leaders to take swift decisions and actions without having to wait for approvals going through a long time taking hierarchical structure, sources informed.
The structure will have ‘mini CEOs’ heading different vertical businesses. At present, there are at least three sets of departments selling and interacting with customers. Wipro aims to move from this three to a one axis structure, sources added.
In the new structure, all functions of sales, consulting, BPO and technical services will have to work in close conjunction with the mini CEO’s to project a “One Wipro” message.
Cyber Crime is not rising slowly and steadily anymore, it is spreading feverishly across the Indian sub-continent, as the number of netizens is also on a rise, sources informed. Data released by the National Crime Records Bureau for 2009 reaffirms the statement above.
2009 saw 420 cases registered on charges of hacking computers and forging digital signatures under the Information Technology Act. It rose from 142 in 2006, the report stated.
Hacking ruled the roost within these 420 cases, where 233 cases were of alleged hacks. Pornography closely followed by 139 offences. They both were 74 and 88 respectively in 2006.
The total arrests in cyber crimes reportedly also went up from 154 in 2006 to 288 in 2009.
According to sources, Under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) a total of 276 cases, were registered during 2009 as compared to 176 such cases during 2008, an increase of 56.8 percent. Majority of the crimes out of276 cases fell under two categories -forgery and criminal breach of trust.
Cities like Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Ludhiana, Pune among others, saw high occurrence of cyber crime cases under the IT act with a total of 145 of the 178 cases.
