Apple's App store reaches 10 billion downloads


Apple displayed its might again when its App store reached a 10 billion download on Saturday, sources informed. The huge number indicates to how Apple leads the mobile online software battle. The front page of their App store page had this number flashing proudly, sources added.

The App store which was launched in mid 2008 first created instantly a fan following for it and it also pushed the sales of the iPhone up, further revolutionizing the way mobile content is sent to users.

While the iPad has 40,000 applications on offer, the iPhone boasts of 300,000 applications customized for it.

Apple has GetJar as its closest competitor which reached 1 billion downloads last year in June; it sells software’s for all platforms.

Other rivals to Apple include the Google Android market and Nokia Ovi Store which have a good online presence in the mobile software segment.
