Vibrant Gujarat Elevates Channel Hopes

The IT channel in Gujarat have pinned lots of hope on the fifth Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit (VGGIS) commencing from January 12.

Reportedly, the Gujarat government has lined up MoUs, to be signed at the Summit, amounting to Rs. 57,000 crore in the field of IT hardware, mobile manufacturing, ITES as well as IT SEZs. According to local associations, the MoUs will create new opportunities for the channel.

One major initiative that will be announced at the Summit is the setting up of  an IT park near Ahmedabad, at an estimated investment of Rs 200 crore.

According to Kriti Thakkar, President, Ahmedabad Computer Merchants Association (ACMA), “This is an initiative we have been pushing for with the state government and they will announce the commencement of the project at the Summit. The IT Park would be similar to that in Singapore and would include offices, showrooms, and warehouses for IT companies. It will be a one-stop shop for IT hardware, software and services. All major brands will be housed on the premise and this definitely will be good since a reseller would be able to procure products immediately from distributors, thus cutting cost and time.”

According to Thakkar, three IT companies, Silverline Infocom, Edges Infoweb and Earth Syscom, have announced that they will invest in PC manufacturing facilities in the IT park.

The channel is also looking forward to other IT majors setting shop in the state. According to Kaushik Pandya, President, FITAG, “While IT major HCL and Mahindra-Satyam will set up a large software unit, TCS will expand its software unit from 2,500 seats to 16,000. This will benefit the channel as the demand for hardware, software and services would rise.”

According to Ashwini Aggarwal, Manufacturers Association of Information Technology (MAIT), “VGGIS is a flagship event in Gujarat and has inspired the local market and created a positive environment in the state. Investors look for a stable state and Gujarat provides all the facilities for investment like 24 hours power supply, skilled manpower and has clearly positioned itself as a strong investment destination. This decade is for hardware, and manufacturing would grow to a next level and Gujarat will have a key role to play.”
