Ericsson partners Akamai for mobile cloud acceleration

Networking company Ericsson announced partnership with content delivery service provider Akamai Technologies to market mobile cloud acceleration solutions.
Hans Vestberg, president and CEO of Ericsson, said: "Three forces are coming together as the foundation for the networked society: mobility, broadband, and thecloud.
To support all three forces, he listed new products and concepts launched by Ericsson at Mobile World Congress. Those include: the Ericsson Device Connection Platform, which helps operators to launch machine-to-machine solutions, Antenna integrated radio, to support heterogeneous network,  IP networking portfolio, and a PC-as-a-Service solution, which allows operators to bundle software in the cloud on top of mobile broadband subscriptions for consumers.
Ericsson and Akamai will develop solutions for content and applications delivered to mobile devices. Akamai will now extend acceleration service over mobile broadband with Ericsson.
The Ericsson and Akamai alliance will create an integrated mobile Internet ecosystem designed to enable mobile network operators to be more involved in the Internet value chain.
“The market is becoming increasingly mobile. As an example, advanced smartphone devices will grow four-five times to 2016 and the generated traffic will grow about 30 times, so end-to-end quality of experience becomes key,” adds Vestberg.
“Combining the power of Akamai’s global network with Ericsson’s industry expertise will allow the mobile industry to reinvent the way it works with content and application providers and will help end-users get the best possible experience when accessing the web from their mobile devices,” said David Kenny, president, Akamai.
