Wipro strategizes a "mini CEO" internal structure

T K Kurien Wipro’s new chief has formulated a new plan to set the house in order by dissolving the numerous complex internal departments and integrating them into a few focused units. He plans to grow sales and increase market share by warding away strong rivals such as Cognizant, TCS and Infosys, sources informed.

According to sources, the major changes which are in the pipeline are first -shifting away from the traditional model of targeting the same customers for different businesses by several departments and secondly diverting the decision-making process to where the market is situated rather than in the head office in Bangalore.

This shall enable Wipro leaders to take swift decisions and actions without having to wait for approvals going through a long time taking hierarchical structure, sources informed.

The structure will have ‘mini CEOs’ heading different vertical businesses. At present, there are at least three sets of departments selling and interacting with customers. Wipro aims to move from this three to a one axis structure, sources added.

In the new structure, all functions of sales, consulting, BPO and technical services will have to work in close conjunction with the mini CEO’s to project a “One Wipro” message.
