Chipmaker AMD not jumping onto the tablets bandwagon immediately

Advanced Micro Devices Inc, the leading PC chipmaker registered solid earnings, sources reported. It also said that it was not shifting towards the mobile segment anytime soon after the controversial exit of its CEO recently.

Dirk Meyer’s ouster was abrupt, which reportedly led to the belief that his failure to cater to the huge market for tablets led to his exit and AMD wanted to jump into the tablet’s chips bandwagon immediately. But the chipmaker firm denied any such intentions and said that it was concentrating on launching its new line up of microchips for now, added sources.

Sources reported that AMD though has agreed that its absence from the tablet microchips segment was one reason for the CEO’s departure from the firm.

In the future AMD plans to get into manufacturing of microchips for tablets, but it simultaneously wants to continue its present production, focusing on its new line of fusion chips meant to severely compete with new chips released by Intel, trusted sources informed.

Experts believe, sales in the PC market could increase 10 or 11 percent where AMD's new Fusion chips will appear in notebook PCs made by Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Samsung, Sony and Toshiba Corp.
